We believe
that the Lord has given clear and sufficient information in the
Bible to direct the lives of all who will follow. Each Christian is
encouraged to study the Bible for himself.
We desire to be Christians only, but
we know we are not the only Christians in town. We love all
of our brothers and sisters in God's family. It is our intention to
make any Christian feel at home with us. You may be lonely,
forsaken, depressed, or forgotten, but you will find a welcome at
Pleasant Street as long as you are reaching out for a closer walk
with the Lord.
We believe that baptism is a valid
demonstration of one's faith and commitment to
Jesus. It is in response to the grace of God, and performed by immersion, in which one is buried in the likeness of the
death of Jesus, and raised in the likeness of his resurrection. At
that time one crucifies the world
to himself, through the power of the Spirit.
The Lord's Supper, which we observe each Sunday, serves as a constant reminder of the
fellowship that exists between Jesus and his followers. We invite all
who believe in Jesus to share it with us.
We must confess that we don't always
measure up even to our own standards for righteous
living. We try, but like other humans, we fall short of the mark. We
may get angry when we should not; we may be neglectful; we may fail to be
patient and tolerant with others. But our Father
knows these things are because of weakness. We seek his pardon. We want very much to be like
Jesus, so we "press on toward the mark for the high calling of God in
Christ Jesus."
We believe in the indwelling of the
Holy Spirit in the lives of God's Children, and we believe the Holy
Spirit is a constant companion and helper, even though we
grieve him at times. We believe that God hears and answers the prayers of
his children. He is not dead and he has not retired.
Pleasant Street church has only one
enemy--Satan. We regard every child of God on earth as our brother
or sister. We receive each one as God has received us. We exist for
one reason only--to glorify our Father in heaven. One way we do that
is to serve others. We are here for those who need us. So, if you
have never yielded to Jesus as Lord of your life, or if you are a
believer looking for a church home, please contact us.
If you have a neighbor who needs prayer, or who would like to study the Scriptures with
us, please let us help. We don't have the answer to
all your questions, but we can point you to One who is the
answer.
